Millennium Line Stations

 

Shopland Projects Ltd., through a contract with Rapid Transit Project 2000 Ltd (RTPO), provided Senior Project Management services for the position of Area Manager – Stations. The responsibilities were to ensure that the stations portion (encompassing 11 stations and 8 substations) of the overall project were constructed within the design, budget and schedule parameters.

The Area Manager – Stations managed the following groups:

  • Five owners’ representatives, five contract administrators and four support staff  (all working directly for RTPO)
  • Six architectural firms: Hancock Bruckner Eng & Wright, Architectura, Paul Merrick, Hotson Bakker, Peter Busby and Baker McGarva Hart
  • Three structural engineering firms: Glotman Simpson Consulting Engineers, CY Loh Associates and Fast & Epp Partners
  • Three mechanical/electrical design firms: Earth Tech Inc., Klohn Crippen Consultants and Sandwell Engineering
  • Miscellaneous consultants: geotechnical – Thurber Engineering, code issues – Locke MacKinnon Domingo Gibson, survey – McElhanney
  • Four general contractors: Dominion Construction Company, Westpro Constructors Group, PCL Construction and Smith Bros & Wilson
  • Six artists groups

 

  • In addition, we managed contracts for direct purchase of all elevators and escalators, system wide platform edge, lighting and service chaseway, finish hardware, HVAC equipment, precast platform beams, platform edge units, and system wide furniture.
  • Interfaced with the other components of the overall project: guideway construction, train management system and municipal interface. We also liaised with the local authorities of City of New Westminster, City of Burnaby, City of Vancouver, BC Hydro, Telus and BNSF railway.

Highlight: The Area Manager Stations position for RTPO was Shopland Projects’ first contract. The position involved the coordination of five owners’ representatives, five contract administrators, four support staff, six architectural firms, three structural engineering firms, three mechanical/electrical design firms and four general contractors.
