SFU Student Residences

From our very first meeting on the project, up to moving the students into their rooms, the management of the schedule was of paramount importance. The timeline was aggressive and ensuring that the design team and the contractor were keeping this in the front of their minds, as the opening date had no flexibility, was an ongoing challenge throughout the project.

The project included three eight-storey concrete towers containing a total of 750 student rooms and an Administration and Dining Hall (300 seat full service facility) complex, as well as a 14 room boutique hotel. We worked closely with SFU’s Facilities Development and Residence and Housing departments, and the design team, interior designers and furniture consultant to develop this project.

Project Details:

Client: Simon Fraser University

Timeline: March 2003 – June 2005

Project Budget: $38,000,000

Highlight: The completion date was very critical, which was compounded by the challenging site conditions due to numerous existing facilities surrounding it. We were able to accommodate the additional 25% scope added in near the end of the original contract.
